We’re less than a week away from a brand new year. What will you do with it?
It’s never too late to clear the cobwebs and make a fresh start.
Want to know how to stay focused and on the path God has for you in 2018?
Check out these five quick tips:
1. Stop trying to please people.
There will be times when you’re faced with the choice to either please people or obey God. It’s not always easy to say yes to God at the expense of rejection, pain, or even the loss of a friend. But the fear of man or woman is a trap. To stay focused on the path God has for you this year, you must stay true to Him. He made you, and He knows the purpose and destiny for your life. People may come and go in your life, but the purpose of God for you will endure, if you remain true.
2. Pay close attention to what you’re saying.
Proverbs 18:20 tells us that our words have the power of life and death. The Bible says that out of the heart the mouth speaks. What we meditate on affects the words we speak. When we meditate on the Word of God and what He says about us, we’re training our hearts and our mouths. When we have a bad day or we deal with a negative situation, what we’ve been meditating on and anchoring our hearts to will come out of our mouths, whether we like it or not.
3. Keep the Word of God in your heart.
Since we were designed to live out of our spirit, we need to make drawing life-giving nourishment from God and His Word a priority daily. Find Scriptures to reprogram your mind and paint your mental picture with the Word of God.
Keep the Word in your heart and take every thought captive. Cast down every thought that doesn’t match what God said and every lying spirit. Stay in agreement with what heaven says about you and your situation.
4. Start dreaming again.
A lot of Christians say they must have missed God whenever things get tough, and they give up on their dreams. For some reason, we have this idea that if God is in something, it’ll be easy. But that’s not true. God will empower you with His grace and you will overcome, but it won’t necessarily ever be easy.
Keep your dreams in front of you, and set your heart on what God says. Step up to the plate and stay steadfast.
5. Connect to what matters.
Mobile devices, computers, and social media are all great and useful things; they’ve transformed our lives and our world in countless positive ways. But, while we’re more connected than ever (and maybe because we’re more “connected” than ever), we’re more disconnected than ever from many of the relationships that matter most—with family, friends, and neighbors.
Ultimately, our greatest joys come from our real relationships. There is an anointing from God to enjoy relationships.
Think about how much time you spend online versus how much time you spend face-to-face with the people you love and care about the most and make changes wherever you need to to start connecting in a more real way.
