If you had a gold mine in your backyard but didn’t know it, you’d want someone to tell you it was there, right?
Well, that’s exactly what the Lord told me one morning. He said, “There’s gold in your backyard.” I had to stop and think about what He had just told me.
***Apparently, I already had all that I was looking for, but I just wasn’t seeing it.***
I knew immediately that the Lord was trying to help me conquer the huge financial mountains I felt I was facing at the time. Those financial responsibilities looked huge compared to the resources I had on hand. But the Lord was telling me that I already had the resources I needed; I just needed to see them.
I had been at that place many times before in my life. I’d think *How am I going to ever own a home that is paid for?* or *How am I going to buy the car that I need?* and the list would go on and on! That time was no different.
When we were beginning our television ministry, we had just started building the Now Center, the building that houses our ministry. Drenda and I had just given $200,000 toward the building, which was all we had saved. But through a business contract negotiation, we received a $200,000 bonus check just two months after we gave the $200,000 we had to the church!
Two months later, the Lord told me to begin television. We had no clue where to start or how to do it. After consulting several people who did know, we were shocked at the sticker price—the first year was going to cost nearly $350,000! Since the church was in the midst of building the Now Center, there wasn’t money there to support television. The Lord said that Drenda and I would have to pay for it.
I was just miserable as I thought about entering into that contract. My businesses didn’t have that much extra money flowing through them that year to supply that need. I didn’t know what I was going to do.
I had just finished speaking at a conference and someone had placed a gold coin in the offering for me. At that time, I had never seen a gold coin before, and the Lord spoke to me when I saw it. He said, *“As I showed Peter where the gold was, I will show you where it is as well.” *
One of my business vendors had given my family and I a free trip to Hawaii for a week. I took the gold coin with me on the trip, and I prayed about the television contract. I really struggled that week!
Even though I had heard the Lord speak to me about the money, my mind was arguing with my heart and I just couldn’t get peace! I would take that coin down to the beach with me and pray in the spirit until I got a little peace. Then, I would start to head back up to the house and fear would try to rise up again. So I would stop, turn around, and go right back down to the beach again to pray.
By the end of the week, I finally had peace about the television contract. When we got home, we signed the contract and launched our television program.
Amazingly, all the money we needed that year came in without Drenda and I having to pay for it from our personal income. We have since gone on to accomplish even bigger (and what seemed to be even harder) assignments in our lives as we follow the Lord.
Assignments are only hard when we try to carry them out on our own, not realizing that all along we have a gold mine in the Kingdom that can’t run dry or ever fail.
